Jorginho’s penalties give Chelsea 3-2 win over Leeds in EPL

London, Dec. 11 (BNA): Jorginho converted the match’s second penalty in stoppage time to beat Chelsea 3-2 on Saturday and put the team’s pursuit of the Premier League title back on track.

The Italian midfielder played through constant back pain to ease the Blues’ midfield woes, with N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic sidelined.

He went up to score 14 and 15 penalty shootouts in the Premier League with Chelsea to keep his team two points behind leaders Manchester City, according to the Associated Press.

Ravenha converted the penalty to give Leeds an early lead, only to accept a penalty at the other end when Toni Rudiger hit it.

Then Rudiger won the second penalty kick for Chelsea in injury time, after a foul by Mateusz Klich.

Leeds thought they had a point after young striker Joe Gilhardt jumped off the bench to equalize 2-2 in the 83rd minute.

Chelsea have won only two of their previous five league matches to slip out of first place and coach Thomas Tuchel has called on his team to stop playing too cautiously when they are top.

But the hosts once again failed to control large swaths of a difficult confrontation.
