Johnson’s hot start helps Spurs beat Rockets, end skid at 11

Washington, Dec. 9 (BNA): Keldon Johnson scores 32 points and the San Antonio Spurs snap an 11-game losing streak by defeating the Houston Rockets 118-109.

Johnson sparked the turnaround by taking his first nine shots and his first three three-pointers in helping San Antonio win for the first time since November 11, ending the second-worst skid in team history.

The Associated Press said Trey Jones scored 26 points and backups Doug McDermott and Josh Richardson scored 12 each.

Rookie Jabari Smith Jr. scored 23 points for Houston. Alperin Sengun added 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, all five of the Rockets’ starters scored in double figures.

Tottenham manager Gregg Popovich is back after missing the previous two matches with what the team described as a “minor medical procedure”.

McDermott, Richardson and Romeo Langford also returned, but Spurs were without starters Jacob Poultel, Jeremy Suchan and Devin Vassell.

The matchup between the two worst records in the Western Conference will be “a battle between young, inconsistent, hard-playing guys,” said Rockets coach Stephen Silas.
