Japanese art exhibition opens at Bahrain National Museum

Manama, September 1 (BNA) The exhibition “Diversity and Independence: Prints of Contemporary Japanese Painters” opened today, as Bahrain and Japan continue to celebrate the golden jubilee of establishing diplomatic relations between them.


The exhibition was opened at the Bahrain National Museum by Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities and Japanese Ambassador to Bahrain Miyamoto Masayuki.


The ceremony was attended by diplomats, media persons and those interested in cultural affairs in Bahrain.


The exhibition, organized by Koji Takizawa of the Machida City Museum of Graphic Art in Tokyo, showcases the work of 10 Japanese artists.


They explored a wide range of artistic possibilities through prints and expanded expression in contemporary art using the print medium of the 1970s as well as reassessing the current history of contemporary Japanese prints.


Some of the works on display are by internationally renowned artists Yayoi Kusama, Masanari Murai, Toshinobu Onosato, Yasukazu Tabuchi, Natsuyuki Nakanishi, Hitoshi Nakazato, Tomoharu Murakami, Naoyoshi Hikosaka, Kusai Hori, and Toeiko Tatsuno.


The traveling exhibition, which is being held in the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Canada and other countries around the world, will continue in Bahrain until September 26.
