Japan to extend foreigner entry curb on Omicron concerns- media

Tokyo, Dec. 18 (BNA) – Japan will extend restrictions on entry for foreigners after the end of the year to prevent the spread of omicron, the Yomiuri newspaper said Saturday, citing anonymous government sources.

Reuters said Japan backtracked on easing controls late last month as Omicron spreads worldwide and has one of the world’s strictest border policies.

Although cases of COVID-19 have dropped dramatically since a deadly wave in August, there is growing concern about the Omicron variant, which has been detected more than 30 times in Japan, mostly during airport screening and quarantine.
