Italy advances in Nations League; England, Germany draw 3-3

Budapest, September 26 (BNA): In an effort to restore respect after failing to qualify for the World Cup for the second time in a row, the national team qualified for the Nations League finals next year by defeating Hungary 2-0 thanks to goals by Giacomo Rasbadori and. Federico Dimarco on Monday.

Topping a group that also includes England and Germany, the Italians join the Netherlands and Croatia in qualifying for the quarter-finals, which the Netherlands will host in June.

The Associated Press (AP) reports that either Portugal or Spain will complete the squad when they meet on Tuesday.

Unlike Italy, England and Germany will take part in the World Cup finals in Qatar in less than two months and will head to the Middle East on the back of a 3-3 land draw at Wembley Stadium.

Trailing 2-0, England netted three goals in a 12-minute period from the 71st minute – through penalty kicks from Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Harry Kane – only for Kai Havertz to pounce on the confusion of England goalkeeper Nick Pope to equalize in the 87th minute.

England’s winless run spanned six games, as Gareth Southgate’s side finished their Nations League campaign without a victory and were relegated.

Germany is not much better off ahead of the World Cup, with just one win in the last seven games.

Italy won Group A3 with 11 points, one point more than Hungary, which needed just one point in Budapest to reach the Quartet of Nations final for the first time.

Italians find it easier to qualify for the Nations League finals than to qualify for the World Cup. They also reached the 2021 championship.
