Interior Minister chairs Traffic Council meeting

Manama, Nov. 16 (BNA): Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa chaired the meeting of the Traffic Council today. The meeting was attended by Minister of Transport and Communications Mohammed bin Thamer Al-Kaabi, Minister of Works Ibrahim bin Hassan Al-Hawaj, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning Amina bint Ahmed Al-Rumaihi, undersecretaries of ministries and members of the Council.


The Minister of Interior welcomed the attendees, stressing the importance of continuing sincere efforts to enhance traffic safety for all road users.


The meeting reviewed the topics on its agenda, including the Ministry of Works’ study on traffic jams. The Minister of Interior called for strengthening public transportation and making it fast, reliable and acceptable. He also directed a study of public bus routes to double them. He highlighted the importance of having emergency lanes on the new rapid response roads.


The Minister of Interior praised the role of insurance companies in dealing with minor traffic accidents and contributing to reducing traffic jams. Meanwhile, the council assigned the technical committee to review future strategies and projects and make recommendations on traffic conditions.


The council reviewed traffic statistics, which revealed a decrease in fatal accidents, stressing the importance of reducing these accidents by studying their causes. The Council also discussed assigning the private sector to implement operations related to parking meters.


At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister of Interior thanked the council members for their dedication to meeting traffic safety requirements, pointing out the importance of field operations to monitor traffic.
