Interior Minister chairs Ministerial ICT Committee

Manama, Jan. 18 (BNA): Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa chaired here today the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology.


The Minister of Interior affirmed the continued development of information technology services within the framework of the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince. and prime minister.


After adopting the minutes of the previous meeting, the committee reviewed the topics on the agenda, including the achievements of the digital transformation of the Information and e-Government Authority in 2022. The authority achieved remarkable results as a result of the continuous follow-up of the Council of Ministers. Led by His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.


The committee reviewed a report showing the positive results of digital transformation through the provision of 600 electronic services across all channels, including 50 services developed in 2022. And 3.7 million electronic applications were processed last year as part of efforts to provide comprehensive and high-quality services. Quality of electronic services.


In this context, the Minister of Interior praised the cooperation between the authority and all ministries and government agencies, which was reflected in the development of government services, procedures and transactions.


During the meeting, the committee discussed the initial services, developed applications and new government systems that the authority will launch this year in cooperation with the concerned government agencies. The services include the release of an updated version of the BeAware app. The update includes new electronic facilities and services, such as digital government documents, allowing users to show electronic copies of their official documents such as ID, passport, birth certificate, driver’s license, vehicle ownership and medical appointments.

After deliberations, the committee agreed to release the updated version. The Minister of Interior directed that regulatory and legal mechanisms be followed to accept and use electronic documents by government and private agencies.


After that, the committee reviewed the draft national platform for government payments. It is a unified electronic system that collects financial dues for all ministries and government institutions through multiple electronic channels and includes new features and services.


The committee followed up on several topics, including the authority’s efforts to activate electronic payment through Apple Pay for the various services provided, the United Nations e-government report, the development of the digital economy strategy in Bahrain, and the government services center evaluation guide. .


At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Interior thanked the members for their coordination efforts to develop government services for citizens and residents.
