Interior Minister chairs IT committee meeting

Manama, Mar. 29 (BNA): Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa today chaired the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology, in the presence of the committee members.

He stressed that the committee will continue to strengthen national efforts to enhance government services in the field of information and communication technology as part of the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince. Prime Minister to achieve the strategic goal of comprehensive digital transformation.

After adopting the minutes of the previous meeting, the ministerial committee reviewed several topics on the agenda, including developments in the digital economy strategy and its reliance on electronic transactions that would enhance investments and economic activities, in terms of speed of completion and adoption of modern administrative systems.

The indicators of the United Nations e-government report were also reviewed, followed up on their implementation, and worked on developing performance levels and preparing for the next report.

Then the committee reviewed the latest developments in digital policies and open data, in addition to the achievements of the operations and governance sector, foremost of which is support for government systems, such as the electronic key, which receives multiple users with about 644,000 users, in addition to the “Banayat” system and the geospatial database.

These achievements also include developing the technical infrastructure based on strengthening the cloud infrastructure of the government sector, strengthening connectivity to the government data network, and developing a system to monitor systems performance and business continuity.

The Shared Systems Governance and Information Technology Department also contributed to launching initiatives to develop information technology policies and standards.

The minister affirmed the formation of a team to research artificial intelligence technologies and their impact on society and the government and private sectors.

He praised the cooperation and coordination between the Information and e-Government Authority and all ministries and government agencies, which reflected positively on the development of government services, procedures and operations.

He concluded by thanking the members of the committee, praising the commitment to communication and coordination in everything that would develop government services provided to all citizens and residents.
