Indian Railway to be world’s largest green railway by 2030

New Delhi, March 14 (BNA): In a major catalyst for climate action, India will achieve the coveted position of having the world’s largest ‘green railway network’ by 2030.

The Indian Ministry of Railways said that the Indian Railways will become “zero carbon” within seven years when it reaches the target of 100 percent electrification of its network.

It has just completed the electrification of the railway system in India’s most populous state of Uttar Pradesh. In a statement, the Ministry of Railways said, “Indian Railways have thus achieved outstanding achievements. Indian Railways has already completed the electrification of the neighboring state of Uttarakhand.”

The state-owned Indian Railways North and North Eastern said the electrification of its network in Uttarakhand will make train travel more comfortable for international and domestic tourists alike. Tourist attractions, which attract international visitors like the Jim Corbett National Park, the famous tiger sanctuary and the Mussoorie hill station, fall under the railway network in this state.

The Uttarakhand train system has existed since 1884 and some of the trains operating there have earned legendary status among those who are passionate about traveling by train across the world. The announcement said that all new railways to be built under the Northern and Northeastern Railway line will be fully electric.
