iGA holds national workshop on capacity building in implementing technology for developing price statistics

Manama, Dec. 3 (BNA): The Information and e-Government Authority held a national workshop on capacity building in applying technology to develop price statistics. The workshop was held in line with the framework of regional cooperative initiatives between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

During the workshop, the participants were introduced to the latest technologies to be used in collecting prices from the outlets. Aggregated prices are used to compile the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Purchasing Power Parity (PPP).

The application of this technology in the price collection process will improve data quality, increase the frequency of data collection, and increase efficiency.

The Director of Economic Statistics at the Information and e-Government Authority, Noura Khamis Al-Saadoun, explained that these workshops are in line with the authority’s vision to employ the latest technologies and use big data and other innovative methodologies to improve the credibility and quality of the data collected.

During the three-day workshop, the participants were introduced to the latest technologies and their application methods in the field of price statistics, their advantages and the challenges facing their implementation. Furthermore, the participants were practicing the new technique to extract data from different types of e-commerce outlets.
