iGA Chief: ICT projects and initiatives focused on national skills development  

Dubai, Feb. 14 (BNA): The Information and eGovernment Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Muhammad Ali Al Qaed, participated in the World Government Summit 2023 (WGS 2023), which was hosted by the United Arab Emirates from 13 to 15 February 2023 in Dubai.

WGS 2023 was observed with the participation of government leaders, ministers, senior officials, policy makers and global experts from governments, the private sector and NGOs from more than 150 countries around the world.

The CEO of the Information and eGovernment Authority praised the good organization of the UAE for this wonderful event, which was held under the slogan “Shaping Future Governments” and aimed at exchanging knowledge and experiences to contribute to government development all over the world. In addition to addressing the most prominent current and future global challenges to improve people’s quality of life.

As part of WGS 2023, the leader participated in the “Future of Work” forum organized on the second day of the summit, in a panel discussion under the theme “The Future of Employment: Skills and Strategies for Success.

The committee also included Kristi Kaljulaid, the fifth President of the Republic of Estonia. Jan Koh, Chairman of the Presidential Committee of the Government of Digital Platforms of the Republic of Korea; Amandeep Wabangu, BBC journalist.

The session was moderated by Doron Avni, Google’s Vice President of Government Affairs and Emerging Markets in Public Policy.

During the session, the leader stressed the importance of participating in this global event to highlight the Kingdom of Bahrain’s experience and initiatives in promoting the development of government work, in light of the royal vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. , and the continuous support and guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, in employing modern technologies and artificial intelligence in various sectors, including government workflow.

He added that Bahrain is focusing on various modernization initiatives in line with the development plans set by Vision 2030. The leader praised the continuous support and follow-up by His Excellency Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology, in employing information and communication technology and digital transformation.

This has been demonstrated through various supportive legislation and policies that support the provision of an attractive environment for international companies and the promotion of emerging technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), and big data analytics. .

The Information and eGovernment Authority stated that moving towards the use of modern technologies and the use of artificial intelligence has become a prerequisite for building a strong economy because it provides a range of possibilities and supports business re-engineering that attracts commercial capital.

He stressed that a strong economy will add great value in creating new job opportunities in the public and private sectors, more than the jobs that may be canceled due to automation.

It will also contribute to the restructuring of jobs to be with higher wages, in line with the directions of the Kingdom of Bahrain headed by His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which prompts us to enhance our progress and initiatives.

Al Qaed stressed that the government of the Kingdom of Bahrain has provided an enabling environment that enhances national skills in the field of information and communication technology in the government and the private sector through a number of national initiatives that can enhance innovation in Bahrain.

The “Cloud First” policy launched in 2017 and the training program launched by the Information and eGovernment Authority and the Labor Fund (Tamkeen) to train more than 900 Bahrainis on cloud skills in AWS and Microsoft have greatly contributed to enhancing their ICT skills and readiness by enhancing their capabilities. In dealing with practical practices to be fully prepared for their future jobs.

He also presented the “BeAware Bahrain app” initiative launched by the Information and eGovernment Authority in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative was a unique example of innovative solutions developed in just two weeks, taking advantage of the Kingdom’s cloud readiness. Al-Qaed explained that the BeAware framework has been integrated with a variety of government systems and artificial intelligence has been used, pointing to its many advantages, including its ability to use big data to detect interactions and infections with an accuracy rate of 30%, in addition to the ability of the application to reduce the cost of health checks. Largely random and business continuity to maintain economic growth.

The CEO of the Information and eGovernment Authority also highlighted that the Bahraini government has become the first public sector in the Middle East and Africa to migrate its entire workload (70 entities) to the cloud environment and enable more than 25,000 government employees to adopt Microsoft cloud solutions, which enabled them to do so. Work safely and securely from a distance during the COVID-19 pandemic and continue to provide public services to citizens and residents.

On the other hand, this has increased employee productivity by saving more than 100,000 man-hours per week by removing time spent commuting to physical meetings.

Regarding investment in national skills, Al-Qaed mentioned that the University of Bahrain offered a one-year professional certificate in cloud computing, along with a bachelor’s degree in cloud computing, which is the first in the Middle East, in cooperation with the AWS Cloud Computing Education Initiative.

Al-Qaed stressed that collecting and analyzing big data is one of the most prominent opportunities and challenges in digital transformation. He highlighted that cloud computing has reshaped file storage, sharing and accessibility through the cloud environment.

He pointed out that the Kingdom of Bahrain has invested this advantage by launching the National Real Estate Information Bank, which will contribute significantly to providing a comprehensive real estate database. The system backend was developed using the Datalake project for Bahrain with AWS cloud computing services.

He also referred to the many ongoing initiatives and projects based on employing artificial intelligence and cloud computing. This includes launching an open data platform on the cloud to enable individuals and businesses to use government data to accelerate innovation.

Moreover, the Kingdom of Bahrain is setting up the Genomics Center and leveraging the cloud platform to process genome datasets to support health practitioners in Bahrain to provide better health services and diagnoses to people in Bahrain.

It is worth noting that the World Government Summit 2023 (WGS 2023) hosted 20 heads of state and government, in addition to more than 250 ministers, 10 thousand businessmen, government officials, thought leaders and global experts.
