Ibrahimovic ruled out of Sweden’s World Cup qualifiers

London, October 2 (BNA) His club and country confirmed today, Saturday, that Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been excluded from participating in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers for Sweden against Kosovo and Greece due to injury.

Sweden coach Jan Andersson said this week that he hopes Ibrahimovic, who turns 40 on Sunday, will recover from a knee injury to be ready to play but conceded defeat, dpa reported.

Ibrahimovic came out of international retirement earlier this year but also missed Euro 2020 due to injury. He has only played once for Milan this season and will also play Sunday’s Serie A match with Atalanta.

Sweden are second in Group B qualifying behind leaders Spain, who will play their home games against Kosovo on October 9 and Greece three days later. Only group winners qualify automatically for next year’s World Cup Finals.
