His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, ruler of Bahrain at the time, made financial donations to citizens and residents to finance the purchase of ten Super Marine Spitfire fighter aircraft bearing the name “Bahrain”, as a gift to the British Air Force during the period.
