HH Shaikh Khalid attends children and youth swimming event

His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, attended a swimming event that included young talents.

The event, which took place yesterday at the Bahrain Swimming Association (BSA) swimming pool in Isa Sports City, is part of the initiative launched by BOC in partnership with BSA to train and teach swimming for 10,000 children and youth within one year.

His Highness was received at the event by His Highness Sheikh Isa bin Ali Khalifa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Secretary General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Mr. Faris Al Kooheji, and President of the Bahrain Sports Association, Dr. Muhammad Mujbil.

His Highness saw that the children and youth are performing as praised by the parents.

His Highness Sheikh Khalid expressed his happiness to participate in this initiative, which covers a major Olympic sport. He added that nurturing young talent was a priority of the British Olympic Committee, explaining that the swimming initiative was part of a broader program to support the formation of sports stars.

His Highness added that we believe in the importance of providing support and creating an enabling environment for young talents in all sports to prepare them for success in our national sports teams.

His Highness Sheikh Khalid praised the progress made by the initiative to train and teach swimming for youth and the efforts made by BOC and BSA. He said that in addition to supporting young talents, the initiative also aims to contribute to reducing drowning incidents among children.

Also at the ceremony, the president of the association gave a presentation to His Highness Sheikh Khaled about the developments of the initiative and the partner academies. Six thousand trainees, representing 60% of the target, have been registered since the launch of the initiative last July.
