Hamilton’s team take Extreme E title from Rosberg’s

Montevideo, November 28 (BNA): Lewis Hamilton’s X44 Team took the Extreme E title from former Formula 1 teammate Nico Rosberg after the final round of the season two race in Uruguay at the weekend.

Nine-time world champion Sebastien Loeb and Spanish driver Cristina Gutierrez finished third in Punta del Este on Sunday to beat reigning champion Rosberg X Racing by two points in the final standings.

“I’m so proud of the team and these two amazing drivers,” Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion who has a keen interest in the off-road electric series without competing himself, said on Instagram.

The series, with matching SUVs and male and female drivers in every lineup, was launched last year and aims to raise awareness about climate change and promote sustainability by racing in remote and damaged environments.

And Rosberg X Racing, with Swede Johan Kristofferson and Michaela Ahlin-Kotinski, was 17 points ahead of the X44 going into the final round.

Rosberg’s team beat Hamilton on a tiebreaker last year after finishing level on points.
