Haaland sets scoring record in City’s 3-1 win over Leeds

Leeds, England, Dec 29 (BNA): Erling Haaland set a Premier League soccer record in Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Leeds on Wednesday.

Haaland scored two goals, becoming the fastest player to score 20 goals. The Norwegian star, who was born in Leeds, reached the goal in 14 matches.

“For me, as a striker, I could have scored two more goals but that’s life, what can I do? I have to train more,” Haaland told Amazon Prime.

City’s victory at Elland Road cut the first-placed side’s lead to five points.

And the Associated Press reported that Rodri gave the visitors the lead in the first half when he rebounded from close range after goalkeeper Ilan Mesler blocked Riyad Mahrez’s shot.

Haaland doubled City’s lead six minutes into the second half after Jack Grealish deflected a weak pass from Liam Cooper and raced clear to put the Norwegian in the penalty spot.

It was Haaland’s 25th goal for City in 20 appearances in all competitions. He scored his 26th goal in the 64th minute to make it 3-0 after another pass from Grealish. He later missed a fourth hat-trick of the season when he smashed full force at Mesler.

Leeds scored in the 73rd minute when Pascal Stroijk headed in a corner kick.

Haaland beat Kevin Phillips’ fastest record of 20 goals in 1999-20 with Sunderland by seven games.

Haaland’s father, Alf Inge, was in attendance to watch Wednesday.

“With my dad in (the stands) over there, it’s special,” said the 22-year-old Haaland. “I’m happy today, it’s a really special moment in my career… It’s my wildest fantasy to be at Elland Road and score for Manchester City against Leeds.”
