Manchester, March 7 (BNA) Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said his team’s 4-1 derby performance on Sunday against Manchester United showed that they are still more hungry than ever for success despite their title-packed seasons under the Spanish coach.
“I’ve said many times that the biggest form of success for a manager is that after winning three Premier Leagues in the last four years, we’re still running like we’re running and we’re still there to win again,” he said after Kevin De Bruyne’s two goals. And Riyad Mahrez.
“You can get confused and think like you might be what you’re not. We’re still humble enough to do it over and over and just be there. After these people have been there for so many years,” he added.
Guardiola said the latest title battle with Liverpool, who are six points behind leaders City and have a game in hand, was another battle in an unforgettable duel.
“We have the strongest opponent I’ve faced in my career as a coach. Fighting with them (Liverpool) and being with them for titles and titles, it’s the biggest achievement of my career,” he said.
City completely dominated the second 45 minutes of Sunday’s game, after taking a 2-1 lead in the first half, with their passes and moves too much for Ralph Rangnick’s side.
“The second half is much better,” he said. “We can’t forget United in the last eight unbeaten matches. The second half was one of the highest levels we’ve played in years.”
“I’m very demanding but I know my limits and I know the limits of the players and the second half, in all respects, the show was everything.
“We felt from the first minute of the second half, we had the match in hand. Today the best we did, especially in the second half, was to play with the rhythm we have to play.”
