Greenhouses in Bahrain up by 19%

A study conducted by the National Space Science Agency (NSSA) revealed that the number of greenhouses in the Kingdom of Bahrain increased by 19% and by 21% in area, the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) announced.

The study also showed the spatial distribution of greenhouses and how it has changed since 2020.

These results come as an indication of the successful efforts made by Nyad, led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King and Chair of the Nyad’s Advisory Council, in developing interest in plants among citizens and residents.

Sheikha Maram bin Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary General of Nyad, said that the results of the study conducted by the authority in cooperation with Nyad were promising and in line with the objectives of the national afforestation campaign “Green Forever”.

Forever Green aims to increase green spaces in Bahrain, and is part of efforts led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to achieve net zero carbon emissions and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Sheikha Maram added that the positive results of the study enhance national efforts to reach the set goals by taking advantage of advanced technology that enables decision makers to act based on accurate and timely data.

The General Secretary of NIAD expressed her appreciation to the Bahraini youth at NIAD who worked on the study.
