Gareth Bale retires from soccer after setting Wales mark

Los Angeles, Jan. 9 (BNA): Gareth Bale is retiring from football at the age of 33 after scoring a Welsh record with 41 international goals. Bale’s last match was a 3-0 defeat by England in the World Cup on November 29, his 111th international appearance, reports the Associated Press.

Bale also said he was retiring from football. He scored 53 goals in the Premier League and 81 in La Liga, and finished last season by helping Los Angeles win the league title.

Bale won five UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga titles, one King’s Cup and one League Cup.

Bale made his debut for Wales on May 27, 2006, in a friendly match against Trinidad and Tobago, and the speedy winger helped Wales reach the semi-finals of Euro 2016, where they lost to Portugal 2-0.

Wales qualified for Euro 2020, losing to Denmark in the round of 16, and then qualified for the World Cup for the second time and first since 1958.

Bale broke the previous Wales record of 28 goals set by Ian Rush. Peel’s appearance is also a Welsh record. He won the Welsh Player of the Year award six times.

He joined Los Angeles FC from Real Madrid last June and helped his new team win the MLS Championship, scoring the equalizer in the 128th minute in the final. Los Angeles went on to beat Philadelphia on penalties.

Bale has played for Southampton (2006-2007), Tottenham (2007-13, 2020-21) and Real Madrid (2013-22).
