Bahrain to mark World Autism Awareness Day

Manama, April 1 (BNA) The Kingdom of Bahrain will join other countries tomorrow in celebrating the World Autism Awareness Day, which falls on April 2 every year.

The United Nations established the annual day in 2008 to encourage member states to take measures to raise awareness about people with autism spectrum disorders, including autism and Asperger syndrome, worldwide.

This year, World Autism Awareness Day 2022 is being held under the theme “Inclusive Quality Education for All” – focusing on inclusive education that will help achieve sustainable long-term goals.

In a statement on this occasion, Minister of Labor and Social Development Jamil bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan highlighted Bahrain’s steps over the past years in accommodating autism spectrum disorders, including autism and Asperger syndrome worldwide.

He stressed the ministry’s coordination with the Higher Committee for the Care of Persons with Disabilities and other relevant institutions to develop the executive plan for the National Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2022-2026).

The minister said that the scheme project is expected to be launched during the second quarter of 2022, stressing the importance of supporting students and children with autism.
