Manama, May 14 (BNA) On the occasion of Europe Day, the French Embassy in Bahrain organized a musical evening presented by French pianist David Bismuth, who presented works by a number of famous European composers.

The European Union delegation to Bahrain, the ambassadors of Germany and Italy and diplomats attended the evening.

Europe Day, celebrated annually by the European Union, honors the starting point of the continent’s political and economic integration, and the peace achieved as a result of decades of collective efforts.

European Union Ambassador Patrick Simonet affirmed the European Union’s commitment to work with Bahrain as an important partner in all fields.

“As France currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union, I am happy to celebrate once again Europe Day in Bahrain,” said French Ambassador Jerome Cochard.

Delivered by Robert Schumann, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, on May 9, 1950, this declaration promotes a European organization that will be responsible for pooling French and German production of coal and steel, paving the way for the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) with Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands as well.

“Today, 72 years later, the European Union brings together 470 million people across 27 member states and defends the project of peace and prosperity under shared values, particularly freedom, human rights, rule of law, respect for sovereignty and environmental protection,” the ambassador said.
