Foreign Ministry holds workshop on human rights periodic review

Manama, July 6 (BNA): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Kingdom of Bahrain, held a specialized workshop on the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights.

The meeting was attended by the country coordinator of the mechanisms of the universal periodic review of human rights, United Nations expert Mohammed Abu Harthiya, and representatives of government agencies and relevant national institutions.

The Head of the Human Rights Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Arwa Hassan Al-Sayed, stressed in her speech that this workshop comes within the framework of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to strengthen partnership relations with United Nations bodies.

She highlighted Bahrain’s interest in constructive cooperation and exchange of experiences with the Human Rights Council, the High Commissioner for Human Rights and UN treaty bodies, noting the Kingdom’s preparations to present and discuss its fourth national report on the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights.

For his part, the United Nations Resident Coordinator Khaled Al-Maqwad praised Bahrain’s efforts in the field of promoting and protecting human rights.

He stressed the importance of this specialized workshop in enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise and experiences between government agencies and the United Nations and its specialized agencies, in accordance with the best international practices related to the fields of human rights and sustainable development.
