Foreign Ministry follows case of stranded citizen in Turkey

Manama, July 5 (BNA) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it is closely following the situation of Bahraini women in Turkey, which appeals to officials via social media to expedite their return to Bahrain.

On May 24, the Bahrain embassy in Ankara learned from the citizen’s father that she had been arrested while entering Turkey, and she was released pending further proceedings in the case.

The Turkish court issued a travel ban on the citizenship until the date of the hearing in her case on September 29.

The ministry explained that the embassy followed up on the citizenship issue, starting from her arrest, as it contacted the Turkish official authorities to find out the accusation against her and to demand that her procedures be expedited.

It also stressed respect for judicial rulings and non-interference in the work of the judiciary, while continuing to provide the necessary support to the citizen, including helping her in appointing a lawyer to follow up her case.

The ministry added that a report was recorded at the police station explaining the theft of the identity papers of the citizenship and her brother, and that the necessary measures are being taken to grant her a temporary passport to facilitate her return to Bahrain once the case is closed. And allow her to leave Turkey by lifting the travel ban imposed on her.

She confirmed that she is closely following this issue in contact with the Bahraini embassy in Ankara and the Turkish embassy in Manama.
