Five killed in Bali floods and landslide

Jakarta, Oct. 11 (BNA) Five people were killed in floods and landslides following severe weather that hit most parts of Bali, Indonesia.

Heavy rain and strong winds from 12:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. local time on Friday, said Rintin, head of the District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in Bali.

He said in a statement that this phenomenon caused landslides, uprooted trees, flooded roads and floods that covered seven regions.

Two cars got stuck in a landslide and road collapse in Bangli, killing three people and injuring three others.

A construction worker has died after being buried by a landslide at a road project site in Gianyar, while the body of a flood victim swept away by strong currents was found in Kota Denpasar.

Rentin said 33 tourists, including 23 foreign tourists, were evacuated after their residences in Badung were submerged by nearly one meter of water.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned that severe weather will continue to hit the holiday island from October 9 until October 15.
