Firefighters battling wildfire in South Korea

Engi, Feb 27 (BNA): Forestry authorities on Saturday struggled to put out a massive fire on a mountain in the northeastern province of Engi in South Korea, officials said. There were no reports of casualties or property damage so far.

Authorities deployed about 100 personnel and three helicopters to extinguish the fire that broke out on a mountain in the county, 165 kilometers northeast of Seoul, at 4:39 p.m.

Yonhap News Agency reported that the prefecture sent a text message to residents near the mountain urging them to move to safer places.

Officials said authorities withdrew the helicopters at sunset and began night operations to prevent the flames from spreading.

Earlier in the day, a fire also broke out in Hoengsong county, near Engi, at 7:58 a.m., and the fire was put out in about 40 minutes, officials said.
