Fifth highest mean temperature for August in 120 years

Manama, September 12 (BNA) The Directorate of Meteorology at the Ministry of Transport and Communications stated in its monthly weather report that August was warmer than usual in temperatures with wind speed below average.

The monthly mean temperature was 36.3°C, 1.2°C above the long-term normal for August, and this records as the fifth highest average August temperature since 1902.

The highest monthly average temperature for August was 36.8°C recorded in 2021.

The average maximum temperature for the month was 40.5°C which is 0.9°C below the long-term normal and this records as the eighth highest average maximum temperature for the month of August since 1946.

The highest monthly average maximum temperature for August was 41.8°C recorded in 2021.

During the month, Bahrain had 18 days with a maximum temperature of over 40°C.

The highest temperature during the month was 43.7°C, which was recorded on August 15 at Bahrain International Airport (BIA).

The highest temperature recorded for the month of August at Bahrain International Airport was 45.7 degrees Celsius on August 9, 1993.

The highest temperature recorded during the month at Bahrain International Circuit was 46.1 degrees Celsius and was recorded on August 9 and 15, and at Durrat Al Bahrain 44.6 degrees Celsius and was recorded on August 9.

The lowest temperature was 31.7 degrees Celsius on August 1 and 30 at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 26.7 degrees Celsius on August 1 at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The average relative humidity for August was 57% while the average maximum relative humidity was 74% and the average minimum relative humidity was 36%.

The highest relative humidity was recorded at 88% on August 12 and 13, while the lowest relative humidity was recorded at 11% on August 27.

August was the seventh brightest month of all of August since records began in the sun’s rays in 1968.

The total hours of sunshine in the month was 355 hours. The highest total number of hours of sunshine for August was 364.7 hours recorded in 2021.

Heavy showers associated with thunderstorms were reported in Durrat Al Bahrain on 1 August, resulting in a total daily precipitation of 30.8 mm.

The unstable weather that occurred in August is attributed to the approach of the equatorial low pressure formation lines on the southern regions of the Arabian Peninsula and the Arabian Sea, which caused unstable weather and thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds in some areas.

This weather phenomenon was almost similar to what happened in July.

The average wind speed for August was 7 knots.

The prevailing wind was 37% from the east.

High winds reached 31 knots on August 1 at Bahrain International Airport, but recorded 38 knots at Durrat Al Bahrain and 32 knots on King Fahd Causeway on the same day.

Northwest winds accounted for 11% of the observed percentage.

Dust was reported on August 11th. Visibility decreased to 2,000 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
