F1 signs 3-year extension with Mexico City Grand Prix

Mexico City, October 27 (BNA): Formula 1, announced Thursday a three-year extension to continue the Mexico City Grand Prix at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez until 2025.


The deal announced ahead of Sunday’s race is an agreement between F1 and the Mexico City government and the event’s promoters. The new contract begins with the next 2023 race on October 29.


Formula 1 returned to Mexico in 2015 and expects 350,000 this weekend over three days, according to the AP. Event organizers said the 2021 race created 9,236 jobs and generated an economic boost of $768 million and nearly $500 million in global media.


“The contract extension for the Mexico City Grand Prix is ​​made possible thanks to the leadership of Claudia Sheinbaum and the Mexico City government,” said Alejandro Soberon, President and CEO of Corporacion Interamericana de Entretenimiento.


“The ability to host the race in the nation’s capital until 2025 is the result of a coordinated effort to sustain an event that brings benefits to the city and excitement for thousands of fans. We will continue to work to ensure the race continues to be a strong contributor to our city’s economy.”
