Dubai, June 20 (BNA): His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the opening of Expo City Dubai in October 2022.
The Emirates News Agency (WAM) announced that the new city is a smart and futuristic ideal destination for business and innovation, driven by sustainability, innovation, education and entertainment.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said: Brothers and sisters, after the historic success of Expo 2020 Dubai, which was visited by more than 24 million visitors, and which left an indelible mark in the history of world exhibitions spanning over 170 years, today we announce the transformation of the exhibition site into Dubai Exhibition City, the city that represents Dubai’s most beautiful ambitions.
“Expo City Dubai will be an environmentally friendly city, friendly to families, the economy and future generations. A city connected by a port and two airports, and also for the beautiful memories in the hearts and minds of millions of people.. A city where the magic of Expo will live on: Al Wasl will continue to shine, the waterfall will continue to dazzle, the Emirates and Aleef pavilions will continue to Tyra will dazzle visitors of all ages.”

Expo City Dubai – the old plan of Expo 2020 Dubai and part of the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040 – builds on the momentum and resounding success of the six-month World Expo to create an eco-friendly, technology-enabled city of the future.
Opening on October 1, 2022, it will feature a number of Expo 2020 Dubai’s main pavilions, entertainment and technology offerings, while continuing the event’s charm, energy and excitement.
With an array of diverse attractions, the comprehensive city will contain offices, leisure facilities, dining and entertainment venues, sports facilities and a mall. Accessible by the Dubai Metro, it will also house the world-class Dubai Exhibition Center (DEC), a coveted venue that has hosted a host of world-class summits, conferences and concerts during Expo 2020 Dubai. Three of the most visited attractions at Expo 2020 will remain, the iconic Al Wasl Plaza, the park in the Sky Watchtower, and a surreal water feature. While Alif, Mobility Pavilion, and Terra, the Sustainability Pavilion will live on as interactive learning experiences.
Later this year, the Opportunity Pavilion will become the Museum of Expo 2020 Dubai – a new addition that highlights the history and impact of global exhibitions and celebrates the success of the six-month event.
Other attractions set to remain include the Women’s Pavilion, which features female change-makers from around the world, and the Vision Pavilion, which honors the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid.
Visitors will also be able to explore the falcon-inspired UAE Pavilion and the Saudi Arabia Pavilion. Details of several other country pavilions – including reworked versions from Luxembourg, Australia, Pakistan, India, Morocco and Egypt will be announced in the coming months.
Expo City Dubai will be free of single-use plastic and will retain 80% of its constructed infrastructure and buildings, including 123 LEED-certified buildings, representing the highest levels of sustainable design, construction and operations. It will also be the first WELL certified community in the region, demonstrating the positive impact of the built environment on health and wellness.
Presenting a wide range of opportunities for companies achieving their sustainable goals, Expo City Dubai is already attracting the interest of a large number of commercial tenants. It will soon become the new headquarters for DP World and Siemens, as well as start-ups and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
