BRCS participates in IFRC Statutory Meetings


Geneva, June 20 (BNA): The Bahrain Red Crescent Society represented the Kingdom in the regular meetings of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which were held in Geneva on June 19 and 23.

Among the participants were 192 National Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies and senior representatives of the ICRC and the International Federation.

The Secretary-General of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Mubarak Khalifa Al-Hadi, said, “The Sudanese Red Crescent Society is working to shed light on the Kingdom’s efforts in relief and humanitarian work at the internal and external levels, exchanging expertise and experience with its counterparts around the world.”

He added, “The meetings are a good opportunity to introduce the participants to Bahraini practices in the field of major issues such as confronting the Corona pandemic, volunteer work, climate issues, and others.”

During the meetings, the Kuwait Red Crescent Society contributed to the election of the Secretary-General of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Maha Al-Barjas, as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies for the Asia and Pacific region and the first. An Arab woman holds this position in the history of the movement.

He added that the society also contributed to the election of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority to the Board of Directors of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent for the Asia-Pacific region for a new four-year term.
