Explosion kills six in Afghanistan

Kabul, March 27 (BNA): At least six civilians were killed today and several others were wounded in a suicide bombing near a checkpoint near the Foreign Ministry in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

A Kabul police spokesman said a suicide bomber was discovered and killed at the checkpoint before reaching his target. The explosives he had in his possession detonated. He added that several people were injured, including three security officers.

The blast occurred in a crowded downtown area near a checkpoint guarding a heavily guarded road that houses several government buildings, including the Foreign Ministry.

A hospital run by a non-governmental organization in Kabul confirmed that it had received 12 injured people, including a child, and the bodies of two people killed in the attack.
