Egypt tows away stranded oil tanker in Suez Canal

Cairo, June 5 (BNA): The Canal Authority announced today, Sunday, the withdrawal of an oil tanker that had suffered from engine failure in the Egyptian Suez Canal, which briefly disrupted traffic in the vital waterway.

The head of the Canal Authority, Osama Rabie, said in a statement that traffic in both directions resumed as usual after the locomotives were able to move the stranded tanker.

The crude oil tanker, SEAVIGOUR, is a Malta-flagged vessel built in 2016, according to shipping data on Refinitiv Eikon.

The channel authority added that he was heading from Russia to China.

Frequent traffic disruptions occur in the Suez Canal due to technical faults, but the stops are usually short.

Less than two weeks ago, tugboats had to haul a bulk carrier that had been stuck for several hours in the canal.
