Egypt mourns death of former Defence Minister Mohamed Hussein Tantawy

Cairo, September 21 (BNA) The Egyptian presidency mourned the death of the former Minister of Defense, Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, who passed away this morning, Tuesday, at the age of 85.

“Egypt has lost Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production, who was one of its most loyal sons and a military icon who served his country for more than 50 years.” said a presidential statement.

“Tantawi was one of the heroes of the glorious October War who contributed to making the greatest tournaments… and a statesman who ran the country in the most difficult times, wisely facing the dangers that surrounded Egypt.” mentioned

The statement added that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi offers his condolences, on behalf of the Egyptian government and people, to the family of Field Marshal Tantawi.
