Paris, November 19 (BNA) French Radio Monte Carlo International conducted an interview with the Minister of Education, Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, on the sidelines of his participation in the 41st session of the General Assembly. Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The interview, conducted by the presenter, Gaby Latif, dealt with a number of topics related to Bahrain’s handling of the emerging coronavirus pandemic, including providing all forms of health care for citizens and residents free of charge, and approving the 4.3 billion Bahraini dinars stimulus. A package to counter the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic to strengthen the economy, protect employees and help businesses, launch humanitarian campaigns to support the most needy groups, and develop an economic recovery plan to create promising job opportunities for citizens and make them the best choice in the labor market.
These measures won the Kingdom’s praise to the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, during his visit to Bahrain.
Dr. Al-Nuaimi highlighted the Ministry of Education’s success in ensuring the continuity of education during the pandemic, in cooperation with the National Medical Task Force to combat the Corona virus, noting that thanks to the King Hamad Schools for the Future project and the digital empowerment project emanating from the Ministry provided the necessary educational electronic content through the educational portal. (eduNET), which had 68 million visits last year, and 17 million so far this academic year, in addition to 14 YouTube channels, and televised lessons, in cooperation with the Ministry of Information Affairs.
He also highlighted the precautionary measures in place in schools to protect the health and safety of staff and students from COVID-19, including daily rapid exams.
The minister confirmed that the necessary educational services were provided to students with special needs during the spread of the epidemic.
Dr. Al-Nuaimi confirmed the continuation of the Ministry of Education’s professional development plans and strategies during the period of the epidemic, as 4,390 employees benefited from them.
Regarding higher education, the minister said that the Higher Education Council has taken the necessary measures to ensure the continuity of the educational process while preserving the safety of students, teaching staff and the administrative body.
Dr. Al-Nuaimi also spoke about the restructuring of the Ministry of Education, which led to the establishment of new directorates and giving more powers to schools.
On the Kingdom’s participation in the forty-first session of the UNESCO General Conference, he said that Bahrain participated in the meetings of many committees to benefit from the experiences of member states, noting that Bahrain’s relations with UNESCO are strong, as reflected in hosting three centers working in coordination with the organization, which is the Regional Center for Technology Information and Communications (RCICT), Center of Excellence for Technical and Vocational Education, and Arab Regional Center for World Heritage (ARC-WH).
