‘Dune,’ ‘The Power Of The Dog’ lead BAFTA nominations

London, February 3 (BUS): The epic sci-fi thriller “Dune” and director Jane Campion’s dark Western thriller “The Power Of The Dog” led the nominations for this year’s British Academy Film Awards, along with Benedict Cumberbatch, Leonardo DiCaprio and Lady Gaga. Those who received the Leading Actor Awards.

“Dune,” starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, received eleven nominations Thursday including best picture, cinematography and original score, according to the Associated Press.

Set in 1920s Montana and starring Cumberbatch as a ranch owner, The Power of the Dog follows with eight nominations, including Best Director and Best Picture.

Kenneth Brana’s semi-autobiographical “Belfast,” which tells of a childhood in Northern Ireland during the bloody conflict known as The Troubles, was also nominated for Best Picture and five other categories.

Prana didn’t make it onto the Best Director list, but on Thursday said the nominations were “a wonderful tribute to an amazing part of the world”. “We are humbly and gladly amazed!” he said in a statement.

The other two contenders for Best Picture are “Don’t Look,” the disastrous comedy starring DiCaprio, and the upcoming drama “Licorice Pizza.”

DiCaprio and Cumberbatch are among those nominated in the Leading Actor category, along with Will Smith, who earned his first BAFTA nomination for his role as the father of Serena and Venus Williams in “King Richard.”

Leading actresses include Lady Gaga for House of Gucci, Alana Haim for Licorice Pizza, and Emilia Jones for Coda.
