Dubai, Jan. 25 (BNA) Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, announced that energy demand in Dubai rose in 2021 by about 10% compared to 2020. Energy demand in 2021 amounted to 50,202 gigawatts. hour compared to 45,712 GWh in 2020.
To achieve this, DEWA uses the latest smart technologies and scientific planning. The increased demand for energy in Dubai reflects the economic recovery and the return of major activities. Dubai has proactively benefited from the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and implemented strong precautionary measures to ensure business continuity. Al Tayer said that this vision contributed to Dubai providing a global model in preparing to deal with various challenges and transforming them into promising opportunities.
Al Tayer said that the production capacity of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has increased to 13,417 megawatts of electricity and 490 million imperial gallons of desalinated water per day. The Emirates News Agency (WAM) stated that the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is considered one of the best and most famous facilities in the world, surpassing the best facilities in Europe and the United States in terms of efficiency and reliability.
In 2020, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority reduced losses in electricity transmission and distribution networks to 3.3 percent, compared to 6-7 percent recorded in Europe and the United States of America. Water network losses decreased to 5.1 percent, compared to about 15 percent in North America.
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has set a new world record in electricity for customer lost minutes (CML) annually, recording 1.66 minutes in Dubai, compared to about 15 minutes recorded by the leading electricity companies in the European Union.
