Tokyo, Oct. 8 (BNA) A strong earthquake near Tokyo injured at least 32 people, Japanese media reported.

The Japan Meteorological Agency on Friday estimated the Thursday evening quake with a magnitude of 5.9, after initially reporting a magnitude of 6.1.

The German news agency (dpa) reported that the earthquake caused a temporary halt to the operations of some high-speed trains and underground railway networks.

There were also reports of water pipes and homes bursting in Tokyo and surrounding areas due to the quake.

The earthquake struck Chiba Prefecture, neighboring Tokyo, at a depth of 75 kilometers, according to the Meteorological Agency.
