Dolce & Gabbana go futuristic in Milan, Versace plays with contrasts

Milan, Feb. 27 (U.S.): From oversized protective sunglasses to shiny jackets with oversized sleeves, Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana presented a range of futuristic looks for women’s winter wardrobes at Milan Fashion Week on Saturday.

Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana presented essentially all-black outfits that play with shapes. The shoulders were massive, the sleeves huge, the one-legged pants, and the sunglasses asymmetrical.

Models wore sheer tops, dresses and leggings, coats and tops with intricate hoods and synchronized jackets or coat dresses with stockings.

Pieces of bright color appeared on undergarments worn in black dresses with stripes that flicker down the leg or neck, button-down jackets in pink, orange and yellow, and pink, faux-fur or bubble coats decorated with matching hats and shoes.

Last month, Dolce & Gabbana said it would stop using fur in collections in favor of eco-fur apparel and accessories, becoming the latest brand to do so amid the changing tastes of younger, eco-savvy customers.

More relaxed looks came in loose logo tops. Other designs shone: gold or silver costumes, red dresses and coats, and sheer, glamorous dresses.

Versace showed off baggy pants and corset dresses at her Friday night show, presenting a fall/winter collection that played on contrasts.

Designer Donatella Versace opened the show with a sharp black trouser suit, before quickly introducing satin corsets in mauve, lemon, pink, cream, or checkered corsets worn as blouses or adorned with tight dresses like bodices.

Reuters reported that sometimes flak jackets bore the shape.

Models wear stretchy leggings, striped pants, or cargo pants. There were also mini skirts, printed T-shirts, and shiny colored chain tops. Large plaid prints adorn jackets and skirts.

“This collection is built on contrast and tension – an elastic band being pulled tight and about to bounce back as energy builds up,” Donatella Versace said of the line.

“This feeling is irresistible to me. It opens up new possibilities and makes things happen.”

Versace also infused the line with denim, introducing wide-leg jeans and mini skirts.

Milan Fashion Week concludes on Monday.
