Dinamo stuns big-spending Chelsea 1-0 in Champions League

Zagreb, Sept. 6 (BUS): Mislav Orcic should wish English teams play every week, reports the Associated Press.

The Croatian striker ran from the midfield and scored a superb goal in the 13th minute to lead Dinamo Zagreb to a shock 1-0 win over Chelsea in their opening Champions League Group E match on Tuesday.

Add that goal to Orsic’s feats against English clubs in the Europa League: a win over West Ham last season and a hat-trick to eliminate Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham in 2020-21.

It was an unforgettable start by Dynamo in their first group stage appearance in their first European Championship since 2019-20, having reached that point through three qualifying rounds.

As for Chelsea, it was the latest disappointing result in an unconvincing start to the season for a club that spent nearly $300m updating its squad in the summer transfer window.

The two-time European champion dominated the match in the Croatian capital but was let down by a poor finish, which combined with a flailing defense and some great saves from hosts Dominic Levakovic.
