Manama, November 7 (BNA) A national survey revealed that voter turnout in the upcoming parliamentary and municipal elections is expected to range between 63 and 69 percent.
The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (DERASAT) conducted the poll ahead of the November 12 parliamentary and municipal elections.
“The hesitant voters who have not yet made up their minds are 18% higher,” said Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Chairman of Dirasat’s Board of Trustees. He explained that “the national survey, the largest of its kind in the region, targeted a study sample of 5021 qualified males and females aged 20 years and over,” adding that the results of the survey will be submitted to the competent authorities.
The respondents participated in the questionnaire, which included 14 questions revolving around four main axes: electoral participation, awareness of the role of parliament and municipal councils, the extent of communication with members of the two councils, and finally, performance evaluation and the issues that should be. directed.
The poll, which was conducted during the period from October 10 to 31, sought to explore the extent of citizens’ participation in the voting process, get to know their views on the performance of parliament and previous municipal councils, and measure the trends and expectations of voters. Regarding the future of the democratic choice, the relationship between the voter and the candidate and the ways of communication between them.
Dr. Sheikh Abdullah said: “The results of the poll are promising and unprecedented in terms of voter turnout, which reflects a strong confidence linking the rational leadership and loyal people and their awareness of their constitutional right.”
Ijlal Issa Bubshait, director of the Dirasat survey, said that the center conducted the polling at the state level in an attempt to measure the extent of citizens’ participation in the voting process, and to determine their expectations for the upcoming legislative and municipal periods.
The results of the national survey showed that awareness of the council’s role exceeded 85%, compared to 79% for municipal councils.
The poll showed that 49% of respondents are not satisfied with the performance of the House of Representatives, compared to 36% who expressed satisfaction, while 15% do not have enough idea about its performance or have not taken a position yet.
As for the municipal councils, the percentage of satisfaction reached 62%, while 17% expressed their dissatisfaction. Up to 21% of respondents reported that they do not follow the work of municipal councils.
