Derasat hosts lecture on German-French relations

Manama, Feb. 1 (BNA): The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies “Derasat” hosted Armin Laschet, Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, who delivered a specialized lecture on German-French relations. After the First and Second World Wars and lessons learned from them in the Middle East.

The lecture was attended by Clemens Hatch, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Emmanuel Mayer, Senior Advisor to the Embassy of the French Republic in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In addition, many stakeholders and Derasat members attended.

The ceremony was held at the Awali Studies headquarters.

The lecturer highlighted the importance of peace in facing tension and replacing the atmosphere of conflict with steps of cooperation and rapprochement to face global challenges. Furthermore, German-French relations were presented and various historical lessons echoed the development of a solid partnership, a role model for others around the world.

Mr. Laschet hailed the Abraham Accords as a milestone towards peace and acceptance. “The Kingdom of Bahrain is a very important model for religious tolerance and coexistence,” he said.

The lecture also presented the importance of consolidating the foundations of peace in the region to open horizons for achieving the interests of the German-French people and ensuring their right to development, prosperity and constructive communication. These relations guarantee the exchange of knowledge, the transfer of experiences, the localization of technologies, the growth of civilization, and the confrontation of various global challenges.

Dr. Hamad Ibrahim Al-Abdullah, Executive Director of Derasat Center, gave a welcome speech to the guests. He emphasized how the two European countries became strategic partners in the aftermath of World War II. He pointed out that the German-French strategic partnership represents a source of inspiration for peace in achieving security and stability and promoting dialogue, tolerance, coexistence and cooperation between their societies.

The dialogue, hosted by Derasat, was moderated by Dr. Omar Ahmed Al-Obaidly, Director of the Center’s Studies and Research Department. The lecture shed light on Derasat’s keenness to keep abreast of global developments, to follow up on the latest global developments, to contribute constructively to deepening public dialogue, and to attract prominent personalities to learn more about different points of view.
