Derasat, AMH to organize genetic disorder awareness symposium

Manama, May 15 (BNA): The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat) will organize a symposium entitled (Awareness of Genetic Disorders: Coping and Prevention Methods), in cooperation with the American Mission Hospital in Bahrain, next May. 23.

The symposium will witness the participation of physicians, specialists and researchers from multiple countries with the aim of transferring knowledge and exchanging experiences in this field. shed light on genetic disorders and ways to prevent them; and mitigate its effects on individuals and society, especially Down, Marfan and Klinfelter syndromes.

The seminar consists of three main sessions. The first session will describe the most common genetic disorders; The second session will examine the challenges that individuals face with regard to infertility and childbearing; The third and final session will focus on the role of psychological care when dealing with patients and their families.

Leading doctors in this field will join many experts and specialists to determine the best ways to deal with genetic disorders, their effects and methods of prevention, guided by advanced global experiences and approved best practices.

The symposium will also witness the announcement of the results of an opinion poll on the Bahraini society’s awareness of genetic disorders, conducted in March and April.

This symposium continues the efforts of Derasat Center to focus on opening channels of cooperation with various local and international institutions through joint activities, and to contribute to more exchange of knowledge and transfer of experiences in all fields, and to highlight successful experiences that support the progress of society and the sustainability of development.
