Denmark beat France to historic third handball world title

Stockholm, Jan. 30 (BNA): Denmark edged out France to become the first country to win three consecutive IHF World Handball Championship titles with a thrilling 34-29 final win at Tele2 Arena in Stockholm.

The Danes led by one goal in the first half before being pulled back in the second half, with Rasmus Lauge scoring 10 goals on 11 shots for the Danes against a French side who fought bravely but came away narrowly, Reuters reports.

Denmark’s historic third win prompted the operators of the Öresund Bridge, which spans Sweden and Denmark, to light up the Danish colors red and white immediately after the match.

There was disappointment for Sweden, who co-hosted the tournament with Poland, losing 39-36 to Spain in the bronze medal match.
