Dell to slash about 6,650 jobs

New York, Feb. 6 (BNA): Bloomberg News reported Monday that Dell Technologies will cut about 6,650 jobs or about 5% of its global workforce, affected by lower demand for its personal computers.

The company is going through market conditions that “continue to erode with an uncertain future,” Chief Operating Officer Jeff Clark said in a note to employees.

In the memo, Clark said previous cost-cutting measures, including halting hiring and travel restrictions, were no longer sufficient.

A company spokesperson told Bloomberg News that the division’s reorganizations and job cuts are an opportunity to boost efficiency.

Dell did not immediately respond to an email from Reuters for comment.

Companies from Microsoft to Amazon and Goldman Sachs Group recently cut thousands of jobs to help ride out slumping demand as consumer and business spending slashed due to rising inflation and rising interest rates.

Layoffs in the United States reached the highest level in more than two years in January, a report showed Thursday, as technology companies cut jobs at the second-highest pace ever in preparation for a potential recession.
