Climate Affairs Special Envoy receives UNGA President

Manama, January 23 (BNA): The Special Envoy for Climate Affairs and CEO of the Supreme Council for the Environment, Dr. Muhammad bin Mubarak bin Dina received here today the President of the 76th.y The session of the United Nations General Assembly, Abdullah Shaheed, who is currently on a visit to the Kingdom.

Dr. Bin Dina praised the tremendous efforts made by the President of the United Nations General Assembly in achieving sustainable development goals and unifying international efforts to address the effects of climate change, stressing the Kingdom’s keenness to enhance its cooperation and joint work with the United Nations in the field of sustainable development. Preserving the environment and climate change for a brighter future and a safe global environment.

He stressed that Bahrain has taken multiple measures to improve environmental protection at the national level, in line with the directives and vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the diligent follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin. He pointed out that the Kingdom’s efforts reflect its commitment to fulfilling its commitments during the 26th centuryy Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) on achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2060, meeting the challenges of climate change and protecting the environment.

He added that climate change is a global challenge that requires cooperation and shared responsibility, noting that Bahrain announced its pledge to support the four major international initiatives in the field of climate change, namely the Global Ocean Alliance Initiative, the Global Methane Pledge, and the Green Initiative. The government’s initiative and the Emirates Strategic Initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

He called on other countries to join the international community in achieving the sustainable development goals by expanding the possibilities for developing a green economy while keeping the Earth’s temperature below 1.5 degrees Celsius.

The President of the United Nations General Assembly praised Bahrain’s role and achievements in the field of environmental protection and climate change, which earned it a good reputation and the trust of organizations and countries.

He praised the regional and international environmental agreements signed by the Kingdom, in order to participate in efforts to confront the challenges facing the world.

He also praised the authority’s efforts, initiatives and distinguished programs related to environment and climate affairs, stressing the keenness of the United Nations to support countries that support climate protection and the economy to achieve sustainable development goals.
