Beijing, Nov. 11 (BNA): China on Friday eased some of its restrictions related to the coronavirus, including shortening the quarantine period by two days for close contacts of cases and incoming travelers and abolishing a penalty for airlines that bring in infected passengers.
The new rules were among 20 measures examined at the first meeting of the new top leadership body of the ruling Communist Party on Thursday, amid a fresh push to improve and improve the coronavirus control policies.
Under the new rules, the quarantine of close contacts will be cut to five days in a central location in addition to three days at home, from seven central days and three days at home, according to Reuters.
A similar shortening has been made to quarantine rules for incoming travelers, according to the revised rules, which the National Health Commission (NHC) published on its website.
The suspension of international flight routes due to the discovery of infected passengers has also been canceled, while requirements for pre-departure COVID testing have been reduced to once every 48 hours from twice.
The health authority said it was no longer necessary to identify secondary contacts, although close contacts would continue.
Every effort should also be made to ensure smooth logistics for companies and industrial parks during the outbreak, and important companies should not be arbitrarily required to suspend production.
The National Health Commission said China will also draw up a plan to speed up vaccination, especially for the elderly.
