Bynoe-Gittens, Dortmund’s latest jewel, extends contract

Berlin, Aug. 16 (BUS): Five matches in the German Bundesliga were enough. Borussia Dortmund moved quickly to secure the future of Jimmy Benoy-Gittens, the club’s latest exciting young team, after inspiring Dortmund’s return in Freiburg on Friday.

The winger came late and showed no hesitation in running against the defenders. Benoit Gittens allowed to fly from distance to equalize – his first goal for the club in his fifth appearance in the league – and also played a role in the next goal before Dortmund won 3-1.

Dortmund announced, on Tuesday, the extension of the 18-year-old’s contract until June 2025, ruling out any potential suitors who may have already noticed his impact. His previous deal at Dortmund lasted until 2023, according to the Associated Press.

Bynoe-Gittens turned 18 just last week. He joined Dortmund in 2020 from Manchester City, who convinced him from Reading in 2018.

Like England striker Jadon Sancho before him, Benoy-Gettens clearly felt his development was better in Dortmund than in the rich city that has seen a lot of competition for places since 2008.

In recent years, Dortmund have overseen the development of players such as Robert Lewandowski, Christian Pulisic, Mario Guzi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ilkay Gundogan and Gio Reina, who is still with the club.

London-born Benoy-Gettens made his Dortmund debut in the 6-1 win over Wolfsburg in April and made three more appearances for the club last season. He also helped Dortmund’s Under-19 team win the German title and was part of the England Under-19 team that won the European Championship.
