Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich shocked 2-1 in Augsburg

Berlin, November 20 (BNA): Bayern Munich suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat against its Bavarian neighbor Augsburg on Friday, which could lead to a drop in its lead in the German League to one point within the next 24 hours.

Augsburg took a 2-0 lead from Mads Pedersen and Andre Hahn after 35 minutes and Bayern scored a goal in the 38th minute from Robert Lewandowski in a poor comeback from the international break.

Bayern remained in the lead after losing in the second season, but Borussia Dortmund could close by one point by beating lowly Stuttgart on Saturday.

Augsburg came out of the danger zone, bypassing Stuttgart by winning the third season, which is only his third victory over Bayern in 21 double matches at the top, and the other results were tied twice and 16 defeats.

“This is a bitter setback, also in our self-perception of how we play our games,” Bayern striker Thomas Muller told live broadcast portal DAZN.

“We didn’t deserve it because we let the goals go. We didn’t play enough in the last third. The first half was bad, we didn’t deserve to be lucky in front of goal after the break.”

“It’s a great feeling,” said Hahn. “We beat Bayern, and we played well. We were passive and naive in the previous games.”

Both sides have been plagued by coronavirus problems, with Augsburg’s Robin Vargas announcing shortly before kick-off that he had tested positive, as did Munich duo Niklas Soel and Josip Stanisic. And Joshua Kimmich, the Munich player, returned to isolation again after experiencing a positive case in his private field.

Bayern dominated early play without a threat before Augsburg became more adventurous and was rewarded for it.

Iago’s cross was shot from the left by Andy Zekeri Ledersen to dig into the lower right corner in the 23rd minute. Twelve minutes later, Zekri stole the ball from Kimmich defender Marcel Sabitzer and passed it to Iago who was headed in by Hahn with a 2-0 goal.

Lewandowski hit a skewed cross from Thomas Muller to score his 14th goal of the season to get Bayern back into the game.

Lewandowski fired high early in the second half and Anthony Davies shot past inches, but Augsburg struggled hard and goalkeeper Rafal Jekevich made a 80th-minute save against Lewandowski to keep the three points.
