Biden issues an infrastructure ‘roadmap’ to help spend $1T

Washington, Jan. 31 (BNA): President Joe Biden on Monday urged US governors to ramp up their construction plans as his administration released a guide to accessing the nearly $1 trillion available under a bipartisan infrastructure deal.

Biden welcomed the conservatives in the White House on Monday as part of the winter meeting of the National Association of conservatives, and urged the importance of infrastructure, according to the Associated Press.

The infrastructure package includes 375 premium programs, of which 125 are new. And while the guide is more than twice the size of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby, it’s much shorter and easier to navigate than The Infrastructure Code, which spans more than 1,000 pages.

About 60% of the funds are available through formula and 40% through competitive applications. Not all infrastructure money is able to come out because the federal government is working by an ongoing resolution that runs through February 18, rather than an annual budget. However, not all funds will be disbursed immediately because the programs generally run on a five to seven year schedule.
