BIC 2,000cc Challenge set for season finale

Manama, April 6 (BNA): The Bahrain International Circuit will host the 2022/2023 2000cc Challenge Championship on April 7, coinciding with the National Race Day in (the home of motorsports in the Middle East).

The event will also witness the launch of the Bahrain Motorcycle Championship on the circuit under floodlights illuminated by the latest technology.

The meeting is organized by BIC in collaboration with Bahrain Motor Federation, Circuit Racing Committee and Bahrain Motorcycle Authority.

Everyone is welcome to come and witness all the exciting night racing action that takes place along the 2.55km BIC Indoor Circuit. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.

The BIC 2,000cc Challenge heads into a fifth and final round with up to four drivers still with a shot at winning the coveted championship.

Majed Hamo tops the list with 114 points, ahead of only seven points ahead of Moaz Al-Zahrawi and Issa Ibrahim, who are in second place with 107 points each.

They are the main contenders for the 2022/2023 title.

Andrew Ray is fourth in the standings with 87 points but he’s still an athlete in the fight even though he’ll need the other competitors to score no points this weekend for a shot at the crown.

All four are included in the tour’s entry list, along with Andreas Boileau, Yebeke Boileau, and Bassem Alaoui.

Their fights begin on Friday at 8.30pm with a 30-minute practice, followed at 9.40pm with a qualifying, also over the course of 30 minutes.

This will set up the grid for the first 12-lap evening race, which will start at 11.03pm. The reverse grid rule would then determine the starting order for race two, which was set at 12.28am.

Training for the Bahrain Motorcycle Championship will take place at 9.05 pm, with the qualifying date set at 10.20 pm. Then one 18-lap race will take place starting at 11.43pm.

Closing ceremonies for both series are set for 1:00 am.

The BIC 2,000cc Challenge is the longest running circuit racing championship in the region. It features the kingdom’s best-respected drivers of varying ages and nationalities who go bumper-to-bumper in 2-liter cars.
