BIA records almost 3 million passengers during H1 2022

Manama, September 12 (BNA) A meeting of the Airports Facilitation Committee of the Bahrain International Airport Company reported that nearly 3 million passengers passed through Bahrain International Airport during the first half of 2022.

The committee is responsible for reviewing the operational facilities for passengers, crew and baggage at Bahrain International Airport (BIA) as defined by the Airport Facilities Program, in line with the directives received from the BCAA.

The committee reviewed a range of topics, including Bahrain International Airport’s performance figures for the first half of the year, and the final stages in achieving the second level of ACI accreditation for airport customer experience.

“We are all proud of how well our airport has performed this year,” said Mohamed Yousef Al-Binfalah, CEO of Bahrain International Airport Company.

“After losing more than 75% of our usual traffic in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we saw a recovery in 2021 and now registered nearly 3 million passengers during the first six months of this year. We expect to serve approximately 6.5 million passengers by the end of 2022 and we hope to be back serving more than 9 million by the end of 2023. Passenger experience is central to our vision and strategies and our partners play a vital role in building on Bahrain International Airport’s reputation as a friendly, friendly and efficient airport that provides the world with a gateway to the Kingdom that makes our country proud, However, we must work even harder to exceed expectations, and this requires concerted efforts on all of us now that we are witnessing a return to normalcy and physical meetings, and I am confident that we will be able to achieve these goals with teamwork and continued determination.”

The Committee also discussed updates to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council’s International Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) addressing national civil aviation responses to public health emergencies, travel security and inspections, and related health documentation.

Amendment 29 to Annex 9 – Facilitations to the Chicago Convention addresses a wide range of facilitation provisions relating to the operation of relief and repatriation flights, air travelers with disabilities, assistance to aircraft accident victims and their families, and the use of civil aviation for human trafficking.
